After a disastrous TV debate against Trump, Biden withdrew as a presidential candidate. A mistake – as Biden made clear in an interview a few days before Trump’s swearing in.

Outgoing US President Joe Biden assumes that as the Democrats’ top candidate he would have won the US presidential election against Republican Donald Trump. “It’s presumptuous to say that, but I think so,” Biden said when asked about it in an interview with USA Today. He bases this view on surveys he has reviewed. However, public opinion polls at the time saw Biden trailing Trump in the majority.

However, when asked whether he would have had the strength to stay in office for another four years, Biden was not so confident. “I don’t know,” he replied. “Who the hell knows?”

After a disastrous television debate with Trump during the election campaign, Biden withdrew from the presidential race under pressure from his party and then supported his Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate. However, many experts doubt that Biden could have won the election.

Biden continued: “I think the only advantage of being an old man is that I’ve known every major world leader for a long time. So I had a perspective on each of them and their interests.”

He hopes history will say that he came into office with a plan to restore the economy and America’s leadership in the world. “And I hope that it documents that I did it with honesty and integrity, that I said what was on my mind.” Biden described his greatest disappointment as his failure to effectively combat misinformation, including that of Trump.
