In addition to the normal contribution, there is also a childless surcharge in statutory long -term care insurance. But what exactly means “childless”?
Anyone who is insured in Germany is also a mandatory member of long -term care insurance. Legally insured persons become a member of social long -term care insurance (SPV), privately insured persons must take out compulsory care insurance (PPV). In statutory long -term care insurance, there is a special feature of childless: you have to pay a surcharge.
They are considered childless in terms of long-term care insurance if they have neither biological children nor steps, adoptive or foster children. It is irrelevant whether they are unintentionally childless. However, there is an age limit for the childless surcharge.
He only falls for them when they are 23 years old. If you receive citizenship benefit, do military or civilian service or were born before January 1, 1940, you are exempt from the contract. If you no longer have a child because it has died, you are not considered childless in long -term care insurance and therefore do not have to pay a surcharge. The same applies to parents whose children have already grown up.
Since July 1, 2023, the contribution surcharge for childless people in long -term care insurance has been 0.6 percent. In total, they pay 4.2 percent, since the general contribution rate has been 3.6 percent since 2025.
Since the employer takes over 1.8 percent from the general sentence, but does not participate in the childless surcharge, as a childless you pay a total of 2.4 percent of your gross income into statutory long -term care insurance. One exception is in Saxony: the employer grant there is only 1.3 percent, so that childless people submit a total of 2.9 percent of their gross income.
