Around 200 journalists have been killed in the Gaza war within almost two years. Now there is a particularly serious incident in a hospital.

According to the hospital, 19 people were killed in an Israeli attack in the south of the Gaza Strip, including five journalists. According to the Nasser Hospital, they were fatally hit during an air raid when they were on the fourth floor of the clinic in the southern city of Chan Junis. The Ministry of Health controlled by Hamas spoke of 20 dead.

The Reuters news agency reported that its freelancer Hussam al-Masri was killed in the attack. Another photographer of the agency – also a freelancer – was injured.

The Arab television station Al-Jasira reported that a cameraman from the station was fatally hit. The fourth killed journalist worked as a freelancer for various media. According to Reuters, his work was occasionally published by the news agency. He also recently photographed for the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz”, the sheet said at X. According to Gaza, the fifth was a freelancer of several Arab media.

According to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa, paramedics also died in the attack on the clinic.

The Israeli army announced that there had been an attack in the area of ​​the Nasser Hospital. General chief of staff Ejal Zamir ordered a quick preliminary examination of the incident. The army regretted it if uninvolved people were harmed. The troops were not intentionally aimed at journalists, it said.

Military spokesman Effie Defrin insured insured transparency in the clarification. General chief of staff Zamir ordered an immediate investigation to clarify the circumstances, Defrin said in a press release. “As always, we will present our results as transparently as possible.”

Defrin emphasized that the army does not intentionally attack civilians. However, the troops acted in an “extremely complex reality”.
