The Ukrainian president is calling for further military support in the fight against Russia’s war of aggression. One topic in particular is likely to dominate discussions in European capitals.

One day before his planned visit to Berlin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj arrived in London for a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Starmer received the Ukrainian on the doorstep of the government headquarters at 10 Downing Street.

The flying visit to London is part of a trip through several European capitals after the Ukraine solidarity summit in Ramstein, which was originally planned for Saturday, was postponed. Zelensky is expected to visit Paris today, the Elysée Palace announced. He will then travel to Rome for an evening meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to the Vatican, an audience with Pope Francis is on the agenda on Friday before Zelenskyj comes to Berlin.

During the tour of the European capitals, the Ukrainian president is likely to be interested in further military support to defend against the Russian war of aggression. The Ukrainian president is also demanding permission from Western allies to use long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory.

Zelensky actually wanted to take part in the meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group of 50 Kiev allies planned for Saturday at the air base in Ramstein (Rhineland-Palatinate), to which US President Joe Biden had invited. Biden canceled his visit to Germany at short notice because of Hurricane Milton. The summit was then postponed indefinitely.
