Nancy Pelosi was one of Donald Trump’s most energetic opponents in his first term. Now the Democrat was injured on a business trip to Europe.
Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized while on a business trip in Luxembourg. She was injured during an official appointment and was taken to hospital for examination, her spokesman said. The 84-year-old Pelosi is receiving excellent care and will continue her work. However, she will not take part in any further appointments.
The statement said: “While traveling with a bipartisan congressional delegation in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official appointment and was taken to the hospital for evaluation .”
Pelosi said she regrets not being able to take part in further events “that honor the courage of our soldiers during one of the greatest heroic deeds in our country’s history.” She also felt personally honored to be traveling with the high-ranking delegation, “which included many family members who fought in World War II – including her uncle, Johnny.” She looks forward to returning to the USA soon.
Nancy Pelosi was the first woman to hold the position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives. She resigned from that position last year but continues to represent San Francisco in Congress. She was re-elected to a two-year term in November.
Pelosi recently gained international fame because she repeatedly clashed with Donald Trump during his first term as US President. A scene in which she ripped up Trump’s State of the Union address on television in 2020 achieved cult status.
