Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek will go to Beijing, the capital of China, to attend the Second Meeting of the Turkey-China Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee (HIK), the highest-level consultation mechanism between the two countries.

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent, Şimşek will first attend the Joint Working Group Meeting on November 6, within the scope of his official contacts in Beijing, to consult on the harmonization of the Middle Corridor Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative.

The “Memorandum of Understanding on the Harmonization of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and the Middle Corridor Initiative” was signed in Antalya in 2015. In this context, the first meeting of the Joint Working Group envisaged within the framework of the memorandum of understanding will be held.

At the meeting, in addition to the harmonization of the two initiatives, cooperation in the fields of air and road connectivity, green transformation, energy, industry and investments, as well as commercial and economic issues will be discussed.

THE MEETING WILL BE HELD UNDER THE CO-CHAIRMANSHIP OF ŞİMŞEK

As part of his official contacts, Şimşek will attend the Türkiye-China HCC Second Meeting, the highest-level consultation mechanism between the two countries, on November 7.

The co-chairs of the committee are Minister Şimşek and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Guoqing. High-level representatives from the relevant ministries of the two countries will also attend the meeting.

The committee, established with the memorandum of understanding signed in Beijing in 2015, carries out tasks such as determining priority areas for the cooperation of the parties, comprehensively evaluating the cooperation of the two countries in politics, economy, trade, energy, transportation, security, culture, tourism and other fields, and improving communication between the two countries. brings.

The committee, whose first meeting was held in Ankara on November 4, 2016, will meet for the first time after 8 years.

The meeting is important as it is held before the BRICS Summit held last month and the G20 Summit to be held this month.

At the committee meeting, it is envisaged to hold consultations on bilateral relations between Türkiye and China and to exchange views on regional and international issues.

HE WILL ALSO MEET WITH CHINESE FINANCE AND INVESTMENT COMPANIES

Minister Şimşek will also hold bilateral meetings within the scope of his contacts in Beijing.

Şimşek will meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President Jin Liqun, and will meet with senior executives of Chinese finance and investment companies, including ICBC and Bank of China.

It is envisaged that Şimşek’s meetings will cover bilateral relations comprehensively and exchange views on regional and global issues.

Economic-commercial relations of the two countries also have an important place in the talks. While the bilateral trade volume will exceed 48 billion dollars in 2023, China is Turkey’s first largest trade partner in Asia and the third largest trade partner in the world.

During the talks, cooperation opportunities regarding bilateral trade with a more balanced and sustainable structure and investments from China to Turkey will also be discussed.
