The statutory health insurance companies have published their new additional contribution. We show which health insurance companies are increasing particularly strongly.

For many people with statutory health insurance it will be more expensive in 2025. Because most health insurance companies have increased their contributions for the new year – and quite significantly. We will show you which health insurance companies have increased the additional contribution and which have kept it constant at least over the turn of the year (as of January 2, 2025, without guarantee).

The Federal Ministry of Health had previously set an increase in the average additional contribution from 1.7 to 2.5 percent. However, this is only a calculated figure from which the health insurance companies can deviate. The additional contribution is charged individually by each fund depending on its financial needs and in addition to the general contribution rate of currently 14.6 percent.

Assume that a health insurance company increases its additional contribution by 0.8 percentage points. Then you and your employer will pay 17.1 percent from 2025 instead of the previous 16.3 percent. With a gross monthly salary of 3,000 euros, this means 12 euros less net for employees – or 144 euros per year. Employers are also charged additionally with this amount.

Changing health insurance is now much easier for members of a statutory health insurance company: you no longer have to cancel with your previous insurance company and request a confirmation of cancellation, but can take out a new health insurance policy directly. The new health insurance company will be responsible for transmitting the cancellation.

You don’t have to worry about a gap in your insurance. If consumers were already legally insured, the new health insurance company may not reject their application – even if they are older, have previous illnesses or are already being treated.

But it’s worth not just looking at the costs. Additional services such as certain vaccinations, examinations or preventative care offers can vary depending on the health insurance provider. You should also take this into account when comparing providers.
