Tommy Robinson is in prison for defaming Syrian refugees. Now Elon Musk is calling for the notorious right-wing extremist to be released.
On his X account, Musk campaigned for the currently imprisoned British right-wing extremist Tommy Robinson. The Tesla boss shared a post from a Robinson supporter and commented on it with “Free Tommy”. He also shared Robinson’s account and other posts calling the far-right and anti-Islam activist a political prisoner.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is Britain’s best-known right-wing extremist. Even Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, whose Reform UK party received a lot of support from Musk, had clearly distanced himself from the 42-year-old in the past, accusing him of being close to violent criminals. Musk, who has more than 200 million followers on X, is an adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump. He had recently expressed his support for the AfD several times in the federal election campaign.
Robinson is currently in prison for spreading false claims about a Syrian refugee despite a court injunction. In this context, he had already been sentenced to pay compensation amounting to the equivalent of around 120,000 euros for defamation. The claims are also repeated in a video created by Robinson, which remains available on his X account, which has more than one million followers.
In addition to his support for Robinson, Musk again sharply attacked British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He accused the Labor politician of having remained inactive as the former head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the fight against criminal rings of abusers, most of which consisted of perpetrators with Pakistani roots. However, Starmer, who headed the CPS between 2008 and 2013, said he only got the prosecution of the most high-profile case in Rochdale rolling.
