As on the first day of the economic forum in St. Petersburg, Ukraine attacked the city with combat drones. Other Russian regions are also reporting attacks. And President Zelenskyy speaks up.

On the last day of the international economic forum in St. Petersburg, the Ukrainian armed forces again attacked the city of over a million inhabitants. Governor Alexander Beglov and the Civil Defense informed people about a “large-scale attack by military drones”. The anti-aircraft defense is active.

On the first day of the economic forum on Wednesday, after the attack on an oil refinery, black clouds of noise formed in the blue sky over the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, the economic forum ran as usual with thousands of participants.

“In accordance with the recommendations of the operational staff, I ask the residents of St. Petersburg to stay in their homes and not to go out on the streets,” the governor wrote on Telegram. “There may be disruptions to mobile internet.” Civil defense also sent out a drone alert via SMS. Earlier in the morning there were temporarily no take-offs and landings at Pulkovo Airport, which is important for the forum’s international guests, due to the drone threat.

Hundreds of people brought to safety

In the Leningrad region around St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), Governor Alexander Drozdenko also reported a drone alarm. The anti-aircraft defense shot down 141 drones. He also reported on the evacuation of residential buildings near a military facility where a fire broke out following a drone attack. It is a temporary security measure, said the governor. He hopes that people will return to their homes soon.

St. Petersburg media reported that 600 people had to leave their homes in the town of Bolshaya Izhora on the Gulf of Finland. One injured person was taken to hospital.

Russian Navy hit in Kronstadt

There were also attacks and a fire in the Baltic Sea port of Kronstadt, which is used by the Russian Navy, it was said. The Ukrainian secret service SBU in Kiev said that arsenals for missiles and ammunition and military fleet bases were hit there. “Such special operations weaken the Baltic Fleet.” The attacks complicated the logistics of Russian forces and reduced the enemy’s combat readiness.

In the Krasnodar region, an oil storage facility was hit in the city of Ust-Labinsk – around 500 kilometers from Ukraine. The SBU said it was an important fuel depot for the Russian armed forces.

Impacts and damage in other regions too

There were also reports of drone strikes from other parts of Russia, including in the area around the capital Moscow. The port of Mariupol in the Donetsk region annexed by Moscow was also hit, it said. Oil depots caught fire after explosions, the media reported. Independent videos initially circulated on social networks showing large fires and clouds of smoke.
