It is aimed to increase the number of settlements with access to natural gas in Türkiye to 1000 this year.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, as of August, Türkiye’s natural gas transmission line length was 21 thousand 30 kilometers and the distribution line length was 236 thousand 492 kilometers. The total natural gas transmission and distribution network reached 257 thousand 522 kilometers.

In Türkiye, there has been a great transformation in natural gas transmission and distribution in the last 24 years. Thus, the transmission and distribution network has exceeded 257 thousand kilometers and reached the level of circumnavigating the Earth 6 and a half times.

With the expansion of the natural gas network throughout the country, the population with access to natural gas has increased significantly. According to October data, 73 million people had access to natural gas, while the ratio of the population with access to natural gas to the total population reached 85 percent.

This increase was also reflected in the number of subscribers. As of July, the number of natural gas subscribers in residences was recorded as 22 million 329 thousand 878, and the total number of natural gas subscribers was recorded as 23 million 183 thousand 623.

Natural gas input capacity and underground natural gas storage capacity were increased to meet demand, increase system flexibility and strengthen energy supply security, especially during winter periods when consumption increases. In this context, Türkiye’s daily natural gas input capacity reached 495 million cubic meters, while its underground natural gas storage capacity increased to 6.3 billion cubic meters.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, in his video post on his NSosyal account, drew attention to the transformation in Türkiye’s natural gas infrastructure since 2002 and the 2026 targets.

Bayraktar stated that they have achieved a huge transformation in Türkiye’s natural gas infrastructure in the last 24 years and said:

“We have delivered natural gas, which was used in only 5 provinces in 2002, to 995 settlements in 81 provinces. We have provided access to natural gas to 73 million citizens. Now we are moving to a new threshold. The number of settlements with access to natural gas will increase to 1000 this year. In addition to our transmission and distribution network exceeding 257 thousand kilometers, we will continue to deliver natural gas to all corners of our country safely and uninterruptedly with our strong input capacity and storage infrastructure.”
