The center-right government in France has fallen. This also puts pressure on the president. But Macron wants to remain steadfast.
After the center-right government in France was overthrown by the opposition, head of state Emmanuel Macron has rejected calls to resign. In an address to the French people, he said: “The mandate that you have democratically entrusted to me is a five-year mandate and I will carry it out in full until its end.”
Macron said it was his responsibility to ensure the good functioning of the institutions, the country’s independence and the protection of the population.
The left-wing camp and the right-wing nationalists around Marine Le Pen overthrew the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier after just three months in office on Wednesday with a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly. The left-wing party La France Insoumise immediately followed up with calls for Macron to resign.
