In his message to employees, Boeing Chief Executive (CEO) Kelly Ortberg stated that the company is in a difficult situation and that structural changes need to be made in order to remain competitive in the long term and provide service to customers.
Explaining that the timeline will be delayed in the 777X program due to difficulties encountered in development, flight test pauses and the ongoing strike, Ortberg noted that customers have been informed that the first delivery is now expected in 2026. Ortberg said that they plan to produce and deliver the remaining 767 cargo plane orders and then complete commercial program production in 2027, and KC-46A tanker production will continue.
Stating that they have to adjust workforce levels according to priorities, Ortberg said, “In the coming months, we plan to reduce the size of our total workforce by approximately 10 percent. These reductions will include managers, managers and employees.”
In the news in the US press, it was stated that 17 thousand Boeing employees will be affected by the layoffs. Boeing said it plans to take measures such as freezing hiring, halting travel and suspending non-essential spending to reduce costs after factory workers went on strike in September.
