Despite frost and snow, shooting continues on the front in Ukraine. The Russian army has the initiative, but the Ukrainians are slowing their advance.
The Ukrainian military reports fierce Russian attacks on the front in the east of the country. The General Staff in Kiev said in its morning report on the situation that there had been 180 individual Russian attacks since Thursday morning. The Ukrainian defenders managed to eliminate 1,370 Russian soldiers dead or wounded.
These military figures cannot be verified in detail; However, they are above the average of daily reports and indicate intense fighting. A focus continued to be the Pokrovsk section of the front, which was largely captured by Russian troops. But the Ukrainians continue to hold positions in the neighboring city of Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region.
There were also many attacks further south near Hulyaypole in the Zaporizhia region. The Russian army has conquered additional streets in the small town, reported the military-friendly Ukrainian blog DeepState. This means that the picture from the past few months at the front remains: The Russian army is slowly making its way forward, but is suffering high losses in the process.
The Ukrainian commander-in-chief Olexander Syrskyj wrote in a balance sheet for 2025 that it had been possible to prevent critical breakthroughs by the enemy. According to him, his army eliminates more Russian soldiers every month than Moscow can mobilize. At the same time, the Ukrainian army was able to reduce its own losses by 13 percent, Syrskyj wrote without further explanation.
The Russian invasion of the neighboring country will enter its fifth year on February 22nd.
