The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced that 3.6 billion people worldwide do not have adequate access to water for at least 1 month a year, and this number is expected to exceed 5 billion by 2050.
In WMO’s report on the state of global water resources, it was stated that the amount of water in rivers has decreased and the amount of usable water has decreased in the last 5 years, and that glaciers have suffered the greatest mass loss in the last 50 years.
The report, which aims to create a global data set of hydrological variables to support early warning systems for water-related hazards by 2027, emphasizes that 3.6 billion people currently do not have adequate access to water and that this figure will exceed 5 billion by 2050. The report also underlines the need for urgent action to address this problem.
