According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) data, the amount of spending made with debit and credit cards was 14 trillion 867 billion 249.2 million lira last year.

Looking at the sectoral distribution of payments made with debit and credit cards, it was seen that the highest expenditure was made in the supermarket and shopping mall category with 2 trillion 629 billion 905.8 million lira.

The clothing and accessories category came second with 1 trillion 56 billion 172.4 million liras, followed by various foods with 1 trillion 38 billion 140.3 million liras.

During the said period, 975 billion 756.1 million lira payments were made in the service sectors with debit and credit cards, and 947 billion 7 million lira were paid in the electrical-electronic goods and computer categories.

In this period, 898 billion 472.1 million lira in gas and fuel stations with debit and credit cards, 877 billion 535.4 million lira in the food category, 872 billion 826.8 million lira in the other category, 676 billion 934.7 million lira in the public tax payments category, In the insurance category, 666 billion 264.6 million liras were paid.

The total amount of expenditure in 2024 was 609 billion 972 million liras in vehicle rental-sales, service and spare parts, 584 billion 440 million liras in building materials, hardware, hardware stores, and 530 billion 243 million liras in health, health products and cosmetics.

In the same period, 421 billion 327.4 million lira payments were made in furniture and decoration, 386 billion 650.8 million lira in education, stationery and office supplies, 305 billion 748.7 million lira in airline transactions and 253 billion 576.8 million lira in jewelers. and made with credit cards.

Last year, 4 trillion 328 billion 901 million lira of the purchases made with debit and credit cards were made over the internet. The share of online shopping in total payments was calculated as 29 percent.

In 2024, purchases made by letter and phone were 708 billion 667 million lira, and customs duty payments were 18 billion 482 million lira.

THE HIGHEST INCREASE WAS IN THE OTHER CATEGORY WITH 173 PERCENT

The highest increase in spending with debit and credit cards in Turkey in 2024 was experienced in the other category with 173 percent, followed by spending at jewelers with an increase of 130 percent.

Last year, card payments increased by 124 percent in education, stationery and office supplies expenditures, and by 123 percent in public tax payments.
