With the increasing prices in recent years, the need for 500 TL and 1000 TL banknotes has become even more evident. The current largest banknote, 200 TL, has begun to cause difficulties for banks in cash transactions. The fact that 200 TL is not enough due to the increase in inflation increases the demand for larger banknotes.
Fibabanka General Manager Ömer Mert, in his statement to Bloomberg HT, drew attention to the urgency of the need for large banknotes. Mert stated that there are serious problems in the branches and the operational load has increased significantly and said, “There is a 100 percent need for large banknotes. ATMs have started to break down due to counting money and we cannot insert some banknotes. “We direct customers to ATMs, which causes serious problems,” he said.
Stating that there is no prediction about the new banknotes being issued, Mert emphasized that the process will take a long time and legal regulations take time.
Stating that this situation brings a great operational burden, Mert said, “The density in the branches sometimes creates the necessity of counting money all day long in cases such as buying and selling a house.”
