What does the agreement on the Iran war mean?
Updated April 8, 2026 – 5:53 p.mReading time: 4 minutes
First relief, now many question marks: After the announcement of a ceasefire in the Iran war, there is little time to breathe a sigh of relief – the next two weeks are crucial.
After the agreement is before the agreement? A two-week ceasefire in the Iran war and an announced opening of the Strait of Hormuz initially caused the world to breathe a sigh of relief during the night. But where does this lead? A ten-point plan should be the basis for further negotiations. Many questions are open.
Is the war over now?
That remains to be seen. The two-week ceasefire should be used to reach an agreement for a permanent settlement of the conflict. If this is not achieved, a resurgence of attacks is likely.
Some international voices see the ceasefire as an important first step, but not yet a final solution. Pakistan’s Information Minister Atta Tarar, whose country brokered the agreement, spoke of a great success. “But the work is not done yet.”
Are all parties adhering to the ceasefire?
According to Pakistan, the ceasefire should take effect immediately. However, there was further Iranian rocket fire on Israel during the night. During the day there were also reports from Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates of shelling from Iran. According to Iranian state television, it was a response to bombings of Iranian oil facilities in the Persian Gulf.
The Israeli army also announced this morning that it had targeted rocket launch pads in Iran at night. Nevertheless, Israel’s military said it had now “ceased fire in the operation against Iran.”
There was also contradictory information on the question of whether the ceasefire also applies to Lebanon. While according to Iranian information it should take action on all fronts, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already announced that this will not be the case for Lebanon. According to the Israeli military, ground operations against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in the south of the neighboring country are continuing. The army reported in the afternoon the “largest coordinated attack” since the conflict with Hezbollah flared up again in early March.
According to the Fars news agency, Iran is considering withdrawing from the agreed two-week ceasefire in light of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hezbollah is considered Iran’s most important ally in the region.
How does Israel generally feel about the agreement?
Israel was not involved in the negotiations but, according to Netanyahu, supports Trump’s decision to stop attacks on Iran for two weeks. The prerequisite is that Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz and also suspends its attacks. Israel therefore continues to insist that Iran with its nuclear and missile program should no longer pose a threat to the USA, Israel and Tehran’s Arab neighbors.
What is in the ten-point plan?
Neither the Islamic Republic nor the USA have officially made public the contents of the document submitted by Iran. However, news agencies close to the powerful Revolutionary Guards report details.
