“For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must cry,” the right-wing extremist minister wrote on the short message service X. “The entire Lebanon must burn.” A corresponding escalation of the war in Lebanon could jeopardize the peace agreement between Iran and the USA. One of Iran’s demands is that Israel withdraw from the currently occupied areas in southern Lebanon and stop attacks on targets of the terrorist organization Hezbollah and against civilians.

The finance minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is also a right-wing extremist, is also threatening an escalation in the war: “It is time to speak with fire, to open the gates of hell,” he writes on X.
