Meloni reacts sharply to Trump statements – Foreign Minister cancels state visit
Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has canceled a visit to the USA because of statements made by US President Donald Trump. “President Trump’s serious and offensive words insult all of Italy,” wrote Tajani, scheduled for June 21 and 22 in the USA should travel, on X.

Just a few days after a supposedly conciliatory conversation on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian, Trump caused a stir with mocking remarks about Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In a telephone interview with the Italian TV station La7, Trump said: “She begged me to take a photo with her.” He complied with this request because he felt sorry for her.
Meloni responded promptly in a video message on Instagram, where he stated: “Donald Trump’s statements are completely made up. I’m honestly stunned.” She added: “Me and Italy “Never beg.” She doesn’t know why the US President behaves this way towards allies.
USA investigates German drug prices
The US has launched a trade investigation against Germany over drug pricing. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced this on Thursday. The investigation under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974 is intended to examine whether Germany continues to pay too little for innovative pharmaceutical products and whether this is inappropriate or discriminatory, it said.
Paint from Reflecting Pool is already peeling off
The renovation of the so-called Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool ordered by US President Donald Trump Washington seems to be failing: On Thursday, the fresh paint peeled off the bottom and spread into the algae-colored water – less than two weeks after Trump announced the completion of the work.
The historic pool was drained and redesigned in a $14.7 million no-bid contract this year as part of Trump’s sweeping plans to transform the U.S. capital.
