Sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s confidante, Ghislaine Maxwell, does not want to testify before the House of Representatives Legislative Committee. This is what the chairman of the committee, James Comer, said. According to the Republican, Maxwell wanted to refuse to testify.
“I could spend a lot of taxpayer money sending staff and representatives there, but if she’s invoking the Fifth Amendment, I don’t know if that’s a good investment,” Comer said, according to a report by Politico.
Maxwell is said to have previously set conditions for her testimony: Among other things, the Epstein confidant is said to have requested immunity from further criminal proceedings and the committee’s questions in advance. Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022. US President Donald Trump recently approved a law that would make all investigation files into Epstein’s crimes public.
