In the Ukraine war, US President Donald Trump is increasing the pressure on Ukraine: There is a provisional deadline of next Thursday – and apparently also a threat.

US President Donald Trump expects Ukraine to essentially accept the plan put forward by the United States to end the war in Ukraine by next Thursday. “When everything is going well, you tend to extend the deadlines,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Radio when asked whether the US had given Ukraine a “loose deadline” to agree to the plan. “But Thursday is an appropriate time in our opinion.”

Next Thursday people in the United States will celebrate Thanksgiving – the American Thanksgiving holiday.

According to the Washington Post newspaper, the US linked the ultimatum to a threat. If the country attacked by Russia resists the peace plan, it will face the loss of US support, the paper reported, citing several people familiar with the matter.

According to consistent media reports, the draft US plan consists of 28 points. It is controversial because it demands major concessions from Ukraine. The country’s sovereignty would be confirmed and it should receive security guarantees from the USA. However, Ukraine would have to forego joining NATO in its constitution and permanently cede territories. Crimea and the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions should be recognized as de facto Russian.

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned his compatriots in a video address that they were prepared for “one of the most difficult moments in the history of our country.” “Ukraine could be facing a very difficult choice right now: Either lose dignity or run the risk of losing a key partner. Either the difficult 28 points (of the US peace plan) or an extremely difficult winter,” said the head of state on the “Day of Freedom and Dignity”, which commemorates the beginning of the pro-Western demonstrations in 2004 and 2013.

Zelensky later confirmed that he had discussed the plan in a conversation that lasted almost an hour with US Vice President JD Vance. “We have agreed that we will work together with America and Europe at the advisory level in order to have a truly workable path to peace,” the head of state wrote on social networks. At the same time, he once again praised Trump’s commitment.

In his video message, the president also assured: “We will not give the enemy any reason to say that Ukraine does not want peace, that it is sabotaging the process and is not ready for diplomacy.” He is counting on the support of his “European friends”.
