Trump employees wanted to have the voting machine secretly hacked
Political employees of US President Donald Trump’s administration tried to persuade the American cybersecurity agency Cisa to secretly hack a voting machine. This is reported by the investigative portal “ProPublica”, citing two former government employees.
Accordingly, the authority should procure a voting machine, examine it for security gaps and pass on the results to the White House. The manufacturer should expressly not be informed. A former government employee suspected the intention behind this was to be able to later use possible vulnerabilities to challenge unpleasant election results.
The Cisa employees initially refused to carry out the order. Eventually, the Department of Homeland Security dropped the demand. There was no hack. Under Trump, the agency has lost more than 1,000 employees, about a third of its workforce. The government rejects criticism of its handling of election security. The congressional elections are taking place in the USA on November 3rd.
