Midterms: New record for early voting

Four days before the US congressional elections, more voters cast their votes early than ever before in the so-called midterms: a good 47.9 million people took advantage of the opportunity to vote before the actual election on Tuesday by midday on Friday (local time), as figures from the University of Florida showed. This exceeded the previous high for a midterm election of around 45.9 million votes cast early in 2022.
Tuesday’s congressional elections take place in the middle between two presidential elections, which is why they are called midterms. All 435 members of the House of Representatives will be re-elected. In the Senate, 35 of the 100 senators will be newly elected. President Donald Trump’s Republicans currently have the majority in both chambers, but polls show that this could be wrested away from them by the Democrats.

According to the information, people voted early, particularly in heavily contested states. According to official information, more than six million people in Texas had already voted early by Wednesday. The number of voters who cast their votes in person was around 50 percent higher than the number at the same time in 2022.
