US President Trump believes ground troops in the war against Iran are possible. He also threatens further escalations.
US President Donald Trump has announced further attacks on Iran. He told CNN journalist Jake Tapper in a telephone interview: “We’re beating the crap out of them. I think it’s going very well. Very powerful.” Trump continued: “We haven’t even really started yet. The big wave hasn’t happened yet. It’s yet to come.”
The US is working to take control of the country away from the regime, Trump said – although his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had recently stated that it was not about regime change. During the negotiations, the Iranians “didn’t give him what we wanted. They would have.”
Trump expressly did not rule out the use of ground troops on Tuesday. Trump was quoted as saying by the New York Post tabloid that he was not afraid of the issue. “Every president says, ‘There will be no ground troops.’ I’m not saying that.” Instead, Trump kept his options open.
According to Trump, Iran would soon be able to hit US territory with its missiles, the US President claimed. “The regime already had missiles that could reach Europe and our bases at home and abroad,” Trump said at a news conference in Washington. “Soon there would have been rockets that could reach our beautiful America.”
Trump went on to say that Tehran’s ballistic missile program had grown “rapidly and dramatically.” This posed a clear threat to America and its forces overseas.
Trump also once again emphasized the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear program. After the attacks on nuclear facilities last summer, the USA warned Tehran not to restart the program elsewhere. “But they have ignored these warnings and refused to give up their pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
According to Trump, the USA has put ten Iranian ships out of action. They are ahead of schedule, he said. The original estimate was four to five weeks, but the operation could take longer.
