The US continues to stockpile weapons for the terrorist organization PKK/YPG militants nesting in northeastern Syria. Finally, it was revealed that 4 air defense systems were sent by US soldiers to the base in Hasakah, which is under the control of the terrorist organization. The 40-vehicle convoy reached the military base in the Shaddadi district of Hasakah in recent days. The presence of ammunition, prefabricated rooms and Avenger Air Defense Systems in the US convoy, which also included “Bradley” type armored vehicles, did not go unnoticed. The 4 Avenger Air Defense Systems, with a maximum range of 443 km, are mainly used against UAVs, low-altitude aircraft and helicopters, while Turkey’s strategic roadmap and potential risks in the face of recent developments are a matter of curiosity.
ARE TURKISH UAVs THE TARGET?
Retired Air Lieutenant General Dr. Erdoğan Karakuş, latest developments“10,000 trucks arrived before. At the same time, 4,000 pieces of equipment were brought by transport plane. So these weapons are just a drop in the ocean. Our situation of reaching an agreement with Syria bothers the US. They are probably planning to use the Avenger systems against Turkey’s UAVs and SIHAs,” he said.
THEY CANNOT ASSIGN US
Security Policy Expert Abdullah Ağar stated that some of the information reflected to the public does not reflect the truth, saying, “First of all, the 443 km range is not the range of the missile, but the range of the vehicle on which the weapon is mounted. Avenger is a base-mounted version of Stinger and consists of 8 rockets. The missile’s range at altitude is 3,000 to 3,500 meters. In other words, the missile cannot be fired towards Turkey. “Those who discuss this issue in this way on social media should be excused, but they do not know this job,” he said.
THEY SENT 40 THOUSAND TRUCKS
Ağar, who stated that the US was protecting the PKK under the pretext of the security of its soldiers in the region, continued as follows: “The US is holding the Avenger in its own hands. Giving these weapons directly to the PKK would create a crisis in relations between Turkey and the US. The US is protecting the PKK in a roundabout way. They shot down one of our UAVs the other day. This was also a protective action. The US cannot give this weapon to the PKK. The moment it does, it will break all its rights with Turkey. “However, we have seen approximately 40,000 trucks, at least 6,000 sorties from the air with V-22 Ospreys and C-130 aircraft. This is truly a terrible buildup. The buildup I am talking about is currently in the hands of the United States, but tomorrow these weapons may change hands. This is the real threat to us and what is necessary must be done about it.”
THREATENS DISCOVERIES
Retired Major General Beyazıt Karataş answered our questions and provided the following information about possible risks: “Think of Avenger as a system. The air defense missiles it uses are Stinger. This could threaten our flights in Syria, our flights in the Haseki region, and Turkey’s reconnaissance activities in northern Syria. In response to this, America needs to be told, ‘What are you doing, brother?’ They can use this against Turkey’s operations in northern Syria or the UAVs and SIHAs it flies in this region.”
“WE WILL HIT EVEN FROM THE BORDER”
“However, there is another thing; these weapons with a range of 3 km or 5 km do not affect our UAVs and SIHAs flying at high altitudes. In other words, they fly outside the effectiveness of these weapons. “However, there is definitely a threat in the need to land in the region. If Turkey wants, it can bombard this region with ammunition dropped from planes in the inventory of its air force without even crossing the border.”
