Turkey’s first domestic and national communication satellite, Türksat 6A, was successfully launched into space last week. The launch, which was carried out with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from the Cape Canaveral military base in Florida, USA, also received extensive coverage in the global defense media. The US-based international defense publication Military Leak announced the development to its readers under the title “Turkey’s first communication satellite, TÜRKSAT-6A, was successfully launched.” The publication also emphasized that the satellite’s communication hardware, Ku-Band and X-Band, were designed by Turkish ASELSAN engineers.
THE FASTEST PROGRESSING COUNTRY
The statement “Turkey has entered the elite class and among the few nations that can produce its own communications satellite” was noteworthy in the analysis article. The publication reported that there were only 10 countries in the world that could produce their own communications satellites, and drew attention to the fact that Turkish-made communications equipment extended the operational life of the satellite. The analysis emphasized that Turkey has been one of the fastest-advancing countries in the field of space technologies since 2000, and shared information that new projects related to space technologies were being prepared.
WILL SERVE FOR 15 YEARS
The analysis article also includes information that TÜRKSAT 6A will be able to provide communication services to Turkey, Europe and South Asia thanks to ASELSAN’s Ku-Band communication payload equipment. It was detailed that the satellite would be able to provide full service for 15 years in orbit in space.
WITH SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY
Another global publication based in the US, Breaking Defense, claimed that Gulf Arab countries could also join the space race after Turkey launched its first domestic satellite into space. The publication also shared with its players the detail that TÜRKSAT 6A will be used for both civilian and military communication and has a dual design for these purposes.
IT WILL ADD MORE POWER TO THE TSK
The analysis article also included the views of Ryan Bohl, a Middle East and North Africa expert at the Rane intelligence firm, known as the ‘Shadow CIA’ due to its closeness to the US Central Intelligence Agency CIA. Bohl drew attention to the fact that ASELSAN’s X-Band equipment is capable of responding to all military capabilities. “With X-Band, Turkey’s armed forces have gained superior communication capabilities from a distance or in the field. Unlike other NATO satellites, Turkey does not share this system with any other country.” He used the expression.
EXPORT WILL START
The Space Flight Now website, which provides worldwide aviation and space news, also reported that SpaceX had successfully launched Turkey’s first nationally produced satellite. The analysis article, which included the views that the satellite “symbolizes Turkey’s independence,” commented that the satellite was also a milestone for Turkey’s military needs and national security.
It was also reported that the satellite, weighing approximately 4.5 tons, will operate at an altitude of 35,786 km above the earth and has a communication band that can reach 5 billion people. There were also claims that Turkey was planning to export satellite subsystems.
