While people were wondering who would come to power in the country, the allegation that the hacker group called ‘Salt Typhoon’ was carrying out espionage activities before the presidential elections hit the agenda like a bombshell. The hacker group, which is claimed to be close to the Chinese deep state, includes the unnamed campaign advisor of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump; It was stated that he listened to many political figures and left a digital footprint. It is claimed that the Chinese hacker group in question was able to access all unencrypted contact information of political figures, including their text messages. As the country goes to elections, it raises concerns about the scope of the infiltration reportedly made by hackers and the potential threat to long-term national security, bringing to mind the question, “What are the cyber and digital risks for Turkey?”
