HE WAS ONE OF THE POWERFUL FAMILIES OF ROME
The “Turcia gens” was one of the aristocratic families that produced senators and high-ranking officials in the Late Roman period. It is known from epigraphic records that family members owned property in Rome and rose to public office in different generations.
HE RULED TUSCIA AND UMBRIA IN 342
It is recorded that Lucius Turcius Apronianus Asterius served as administrator in the Tuscia and Umbria regions in 342. He later continued his career and rose to one of the most important administrative positions in Rome.
HE RISED TO THE GOVERNOR OF ROME
It is stated that Asterius was the Roman city governor between 362 and 364, and some records date his duty to 363. The office of praefectus urbi was one of the most powerful positions in the administration of the imperial capital.
THE NAME TURCIUS HAS LAST FOR GENERATIONS
The records contain not only Asterius, but also other names such as Lucius Turcius Apronianus, Lucius Turcius Secundus Asterius and Turcius Apronianus. This shows that the name “Turcius” does not belong to a single person, but has been used for generations within the same aristocratic family.
