According to the US broadcaster Fox News, the FBI arrested four suspects in Lucerne Valley – outside Los Angeles – during its investigation. They intended to carry out bomb attacks at five different locations in the city of over a million people.

US President Donald Trump has indirectly blamed the murdered Hollywood director Rob Reiner for his death. “Last night something very sad happened in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a… once highly talented film director and comedian, passed away along with his wife Michele,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. At first that sounded like regret. But then Trump added: “They reportedly died from the anger he unleashed on others through his massive, unrelenting and incurable illness called Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).

Trump further stated, “He was known for driving people crazy with his insane obsession with President Donald J. Trump. His apparent paranoia reached new heights as the Trump administration exceeded all expectations and America’s Golden Age dawned, perhaps like never before.”

Trump’s post sparked strong criticism. Former Republican Ron Filipkoswki declared: “This is both disgusting and to be expected,” followed by: “The supreme scumbag.” California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom said: “Rob was the big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love. His boundless empathy made his stories timeless and taught generations to see the good and righteous in others – and encouraged us to dream bigger.” Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead on Monday. Police took her son Nick Reiner into custody.

The USA is demanding exemptions from the EU methane regulation for its oil and gas exporters, which is intended to help reduce climate-damaging greenhouse gas emissions. This emerges from a US government document seen by the Reuters news agency, which was sent to EU member states ahead of a meeting of their energy ministers in Brussels on Monday. It says U.S. oil and gas exporters should not be required to monitor and report methane emissions associated with imports until 2035, as required by the regulation. The EU methane regulation is a “critical non-tariff trade barrier that places an undue burden on US exporters and our trading relationships.”
