There has been a total power outage in Cuba. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is renewing his threat to take over the country. And it becomes clear.
There has been a total power outage in crisis-ridden Cuba. The cause was a “complete collapse of the national power grid,” the energy authority of the communist-ruled island announced on Monday. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump repeated his threat to take over the country.
Trump told reporters at the White House that he would “take” Cuba. “All my life I’ve been hearing about the United States and Cuba. When will the United States do it?” he said. “I really believe that I will have the honor of taking Cuba.”
The US President continued: “I mean, whether I liberate it or take it over, I think I can do whatever I want with it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday. “They are a very weak country at the moment.”
It was one of Trump’s clearest threats against the communist-ruled island. Meanwhile, the New York Times, citing sources familiar with discussions between the two sides, reported that the US government had made it clear to Cuban representatives that Washington wanted Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel to be removed from power. However, the communist government should be allowed to remain in power.
It was only on Sunday that Trump once again held out the prospect of an agreement with Cuba – without, however, specifying which topics this should relate to. On Friday, the Cuban government confirmed talks with US representatives for the first time to “resolve bilateral differences”.
