The number of electric cars registered to traffic in Türkiye increased by 53.2 percent on an annual basis as of August, reaching 472 thousand 157.
According to information compiled from Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, the number of cars registered to traffic in the country reached 18 million 37 thousand 907 as of August.
The number of electric vehicles, which have less carbon emissions than other fuel types, provide energy efficiency and help reduce noise pollution by operating silently, has increased significantly in recent years, with the increase in charging stations.
The increase in the market share of Türkiye’s automobile, Togg, its launch of new models and the shift in user preferences in this direction were also effective in this increase.
INTEREST IN ELECTRIC CARS INCREASED
While the number of electric cars registered in traffic was only 565 in 2015, it reached 183 thousand 776 in 2024 and 370 thousand 591 in 2025.
The number of electric cars, which was recorded as 308 thousand 217 in August 2025, was calculated as 472 thousand 157, with an increase of 53.2 percent as of last month.
On the other hand, the share of electric cars in registered cars was recorded as 2.62 percent.
INCREASE IN THE SHARE OF HYBRID CARS
Data on hybrid type cars was recorded for the first time in 2011, with 23 units.
While the number of hybrid cars registered in traffic increased to 13 thousand 877 in 2019, it was calculated as 222 thousand 328 by the end of 2023, 391 thousand 296 in 2024, and 697 thousand 27 in 2025. This number increased to 896 thousand 270 as of August 2026.
While the share of hybrid type cars in the total was 4 percent in 2025, it was recorded as 4.97 percent as of last month.
