Security measures are on the agenda again when shopping online. Banking and cyber security experts state that the use of virtual cards is becoming increasingly common instead of sharing physical credit card information with websites.

Virtual card stands out

According to experts, the virtual card offers a card system that is created digitally, linked to an existing credit card or bank account, and is not physically printed.

The card number, expiration date and security code of the virtual card are different from the physical card to which it is linked. Thus, actual card information is not shared with websites.

Three key security benefits

Finance and cyber security experts point out three main advantages of using virtual cards:

A limit can be set for the shopping amount.
Single-use or timed cards can be created.
Sharing of actual credit card information with third parties is prevented.
