Unidentified projectile hits tanker in Strait of Hormuz

Iran is still largely blocking shipping traffic through the strait, which is important for global oil trade. A bullet hits a tanker there.

In the Strait of Hormuz a tanker was attacked again. The ship was hit by an unknown missile off the coast of Oman, the British Maritime Safety Authority (UKMTO) X reported on the platform on Sunday evening. According to the information, the incident occurred on Saturday twelve nautical miles north of the city of al-Khasab.

There are currently no reports of injuries or environmental damage, it said. It remained unclear who was responsible for the attack. The investigation is ongoing, UKMTO said. The authority recently reported an attack on an oil tanker off the Omani coast on Tuesday.

Another statement from UKMTO on Sunday said attacks, attempted attacks and harassment of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards continued in the Strait of Hormuz, including drone overflights, targeted surveillance of merchant vessels and occasional radio messages. This shows that the Iran want to continue to maintain pressure on ships passing through. Commercial traffic through the strait remained at reduced levels, although slightly up from recent lows.
