This image, taken on September 27, 2024, once again revealed how misleading the shapes of rocks over time can be.
Although this rock on the surface of Mars looks like a human head, it is actually just an ordinary rock.
This optical illusion is based on a phenomenon known as “pareidolia.” This phenomenon refers to the human brain’s tendency to perceive familiar shapes and patterns.
Such interesting shapes on Mars have been seen before; Bear face, warrior figure, spoon and even insect-like images have been recorded before.
Scientists state that such images are caused by the combination of random shapes and shadows.
However, the human eye’s ability to quickly notice such similarities ensures that Mars exploration is always interesting.
Although no traces of complex life forms have yet been found on Mars, such mysteries will perhaps be solved with manned Mars missions in the future.
