SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk in 2002, has launched its first private spacewalk.
The Falcon 9 rocket by SpaceX was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in the state of Florida, and the journey of SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis, Anna Mennon and pilot Scott Poteet began under the leadership of US billionaire businessman Jared Isaacman.
The spacewalk, considered “one of the riskiest in astronaut space travel,” is planned to take place tomorrow or Thursday before they step away from the capsule.
Gillis, Mennon and Poteet are expected to follow Isaacman from the rocket during his five-day journey, which will be the first private spacewalk in human history.
POLARIS DAWN MISSION
As part of the Polaris Dawn mission, the team aims to carry out the first spacewalk in human history on the third day of their 5-day mission.
The crew will be housed in a capsule called “Crew Dragon”, which is expected to enter orbit through a radiation belt and reach the highest Earth orbit.
As part of the mission, where the focus is on spacewalks, the team will also conduct scientific experiments.
The mission is also expected to be the first to test laser-based communications from Musk’s Starlink satellite internet system.
Meanwhile, in addition to SpaceX’s first mission within the Polaris program, Polaris Dawn, two more missions are planned to be launched in the coming period.
