South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol accuses the opposition of having sympathies for North Korea. Now he is declaring martial law.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared martial law in his country. In a speech on Tuesday, he accused the opposition of paralyzing the government out of sympathy for North Korea.

Yoon said this measure was necessary to “eliminate anti-state elements” and protect the country’s constitution. This is threatened by “communist forces in North Korea”.

Since his election in 2022, the president has been in constant conflict with parliament, where the opposition controls the majority.
