Scientists have determined how much sleep is needed for ‘healthy aging’. Within the scope of the research, the sleep habits of approximately 3,500 people aged 45 and over were recorded in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Data from participants who underwent a health check five years later were analyzed by the team at Wenzhou Medical University in China. The study showed that people who sleep at least seven hours a night are healthier in later life.
Participants were evaluated according to their sleep habits for four years: long (8-9 hours of regular sleep), normal (7-8 hours of regular sleep), little (from above 8 to below 8 on average), increased (on average 6′). They were divided into five groups: from below (to over 8) and short-term (regularly 5-6 hours). When the results were examined, it was determined that those who slept at least 7 hours a day were healthier.
In the researchers’ articles, aging healthily; It was defined as being free from chronic diseases, not having any physical disorders, being in good mental health and active participation in life.
