Aleksey Likhachev, General Manager of Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom, stated that there are only a few months left for the start of commissioning works at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and that they are making maximum efforts to accelerate the project.
In the statement made by Rosatom, Likhachev evaluated the meeting he had with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
Stating that the construction and commissioning works at Akkuyu NPP are continuing successfully, Likhachev said, “There are only a few months left until the commissioning works begin. Together with the representatives of the customer side, we are making maximum efforts to accelerate all production processes.” he said.
Likhachev emphasized that the project was under pressure due to the attitude of foreign financial institutions, the obstacles of European suppliers and the direct interventions of some Western public institutions, and noted that this situation had an impact on costs and schedule.
Pointing out that it is important to compensate for the risks in the project and increase economic efficiency, Likhachev stated that the Turkish side has also implemented various legal regulations to support the nuclear energy sector, including Akkuyu NPP.
