Scientists announced that a powerful geomagnetic storm coming from the Sun is about to reach the Earth today. This storm, which occurs when high-energy particles interact with the Earth’s magnetic field, will be especially effective in the Northern Hemisphere.

According to Space.com, a coronal mass ejection (CME) caused by plasma and magnetic particles bursting from the surface of the Sun occurred on Sunday. The Sun’s plasma, currently traveling at 650 miles per hour, is expected to reach Earth around noon today.

NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) experts state that the storm emerged as a result of a large coronal mass ejection (CME) on the surface of the Sun. Geomagnetic storms can cause disruptions, especially to power grids, satellite systems and radio communications. In addition, the northern and southern lights (auroras) observed in the atmosphere will be visible in a wider area and more intensely due to the effect of this storm.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) is a giant cloud of solar plasma saturated with magnetic field lines that is blown away from the Sun, usually during powerful, long-lasting solar flares and filament eruptions.
