Two suspected Islamists are said to have made plans from Thuringia for a bloody attack on the Swedish parliament. Now the men are on trial.
Two suspected Islamists are on trial in Thuringia. They are accused of planning a gun attack on the Swedish parliament from Germany. The defendants, who are 23 and 30 years old, did not comment on the allegations at the start of the trial before the State Security Senate of the Higher Regional Court in Jena.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office accuses the men from Afghanistan of, among other things, membership or support of a terrorist organization. The defendants are said to have come to Germany in 2015 and 2016 and become radicalized here, according to the representative of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office when reading out the indictment.
They are said to have specifically planned and prepared an attack on the parliament in Stockholm, in which at least ten police officers, parliament employees and other people would have died.
The 30-year-old, who is accused of membership in an offshoot of the terrorist organization “Islamic State,” will speak about the allegations at the next hearing, his lawyer announced.
The man’s 23-year-old alleged accomplice will remain silent, his defense attorney said.
