Rho Motion, a UK-based consultancy company working in the field of electric vehicles, published data on sales in October.
Accordingly, 1.72 million hybrid and electric cars were sold worldwide in October. Sales increased by 35 percent on an annual basis in October.
This figure exceeded the sales volume of September 2024, where record sales were previously seen, by 50 thousand, thus global electric vehicle sales broke a new record in October.
While 1.2 million of these sales took place in China, sales in the country increased by 6 percent monthly and 54 percent annually, breaking a record.
Last month, sales in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom increased by 0.8 percent to 260 thousand.
On the other hand, in the January-October period, total electric vehicle sales in the world increased by 24 percent, reaching 13.3 million.
Of the total sales in this period, 8.4 million were in China, 2.5 million in the EU and the UK, and 1.4 million in the USA and Canada. The remaining part of the sales (1 million) was made in other parts of the world.
In his evaluation of the data, Rho Motion Data Manager Charles Lester stated that the global electric vehicle market is on the rise again, reaching record sales for the second consecutive month in October.
Noting that most of the sales take place in China, Lester said, “Western manufacturers clearly feel threatened by this situation.” he said.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the European automotive industry faces many challenges, from high production costs, especially electricity, to falling demand and increasing competition from China.
Europe’s largest automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen, plans to close a factory in Germany for the first time due to high production costs.
