Making a statement following today’s announced unemployment and industrial production figures, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said, “The demand expected to strengthen in our main trade partners in the coming period will be more supportive in terms of our production and exports.”
Minister Şimşek, in his statement from his X account, said, “Labor force indicators are in line with the Medium Term Program targets. In the first seven months of the year, during which the economy continues to rebalance, employment increased by approximately 600 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 8.8 percent in July.
Growth in the industrial sector, which accounts for 23 percent of our economy, is moderate. Industrial production increased by 1.2 percent annually in the first seven months. The Export Climate Index shows that improvement in external demand conditions continues.
“The demand expected to strengthen in our main trading partners in the coming period will be more supportive in terms of our production and exports. In order to benefit from the improving external demand conditions to the maximum extent and to increase permanent competitiveness, we will support the efficiency-based production and industrial transformation with structural reforms focused on improving the business and investment environment, ensuring twin transformation and strengthening human capital.”
