A Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. The authorities are investigating a possible terrorist motive.
On Wednesday, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Police are treating the incident as a possible act of terrorism. A person in the vehicle was killed. Video footage showed how the vehicle standing in front of the hotel entrance – a type of pickup truck – burst into flames, followed by smaller explosions like fireworks.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is now investigating whether the cause of the explosion was a technical defect or an external force. The area around the hotel was evacuated and the public was asked to avoid the area. An officer stated that there were fireworks in the vehicle.
However, Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized that there was no immediate danger to the public. “We believe everything is safe now,” he said.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that his team is also investigating the incident. “We have never seen anything like this,” wrote the entrepreneur. “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by a very large firecracker and/or bomb in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and had nothing to do with the vehicle itself,” he wrote a short time later. Eric Trump, vice president of the Trump Organization, also commented on the event and thanked the emergency services for their quick response.
