Iran has proven that its missiles fly further than previously known. This also brings Europe onto the screen.

Israel warns its European allies of Iranian missile attacks. Israeli Chief of General Staff Ejal Zamir said that European capitals such as Berlin were also within the threat radius. According to state television, Iran fired two ballistic missiles at a military base shared by Great Britain and the USA on the island of Diego Garcia. The facility is located about 4,000 kilometers southeast of the Iranian coast. However, the rockets missed the military base.

“These missiles are not intended to hit Israel,” Zamir warned. European capitals would be within their target range. “Berlin, Paris and Rome are all within direct threat radius.”

The Iranian Khorramshahr-4 missiles, also called Keibar, are suitable for such long-range attacks. They are 13 meters long, liquid fuel-powered rockets with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a take-off weight of around 20 tons, reports the military specialist website “Army Technology”.

The rocket is structured in several areas. At the front is the payload compartment with the warhead. Behind it are two tanks for the oxidizer – one at the top, one at the bottom – and a fuel tank. There is a connecting room in between. The rocket has no grid fins for control. Instead, the entire control technology is located in several chambers above the tanks, according to the specialist website.

It should take just 12 minutes for a 2,000 kilometer flight. Berlin is around 3,000 kilometers from Tehran, and the flight time is just under 20 minutes. It is questionable, however, whether an Iranian missile will penetrate NATO air defenses. In the attack on Diego Garcia, the missiles flew over a large part of the Indian Ocean, where there are hardly any radar stations and anti-aircraft systems.
