The tension in the Middle East and rising energy costs due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz are pushing the aviation industry to a difficult decision. Although some airline companies have recently made discounts on intra-European flights due to low demand, IATA President Willie Walsh emphasized that it is not possible to cover these additional costs for a long time.

‘FUEL SHORTAGE MAY EXPERIENCE DURING THE SUMMER SEASON’

Making special statements to the BBC, Walsh stated that concerns remain that the aviation industry in the UK may face fuel shortages in the summer months. However, Walsh also underlined that the situation should not create an atmosphere of panic yet.

Drawing attention to the depth of the crisis, Walsh said, “Even if the Strait of Hormuz is opened tomorrow, the effects of the disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East may continue to be felt until next year.”
