Android phones use Android Auto to connect with the car. They all have this app installed by default, although it may not appear in your phone’s app drawer. This is because it integrates directly into the system and can be accessed via settings, as well as enabling wireless connectivity with the mobile phone.
When connecting a mobile phone wirelessly to a car, compatibility is important, as it is when connecting other devices. The problem is that the list of cars with screens that allow the use of Android Auto is very long. Almost all models since 2016 have included this feature. In the case of Android phones, things change radically because in order to connect wirelessly, a series of requirements must be met, including:
These are as follows:
Android 11 or later versions
The vehicle is compatible with Bluetooth or WiFi
Your mobile phone must be compatible with the 5 GHz WiFi standard.
Before you can connect, you need to enable Android Auto wireless mode as it is not enabled by default.
Follow these steps:
Open Android Auto on your mobile phone.
Locate and click on the System or Version option.
Tap on the 3 dots in the upper right area.
Enable Android Auto option wirelessly.
When wireless mode is enabled, do the following:
Open Android Auto from car screen
Connect your mobile phone via Bluetooth or WiFi.
Authorize the connection.
However, some phones may not have wireless compatibility with cars. There is a solution for this too.
To use an old phone as an Android Auto monitor, you can get a Motorola MA1 adapter that acts as a wireless adapter. All you have to do is connect the adapter to the car with a USB cable.
