Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree that increased the number of soldiers in the Russian army by 180 thousand people, bringing the total number of military personnel to over 2 million 389 thousand. According to information provided by military sources close to NATO who spoke to US-based defense media outlets; Russia’s efforts to intensify the war continue at full speed. The most striking information is that the armored vehicle ‘BMPT-72 Terminator 2’, which causes death without discrimination between civilians and soldiers, will be deployed to the Ukrainian front. The latest move by the Russians also worries NATO.

There is concern in NATO that the ‘BMPT-72 Terminator 2’ combat vehicle, which Russia decided to send to the front in the Ukraine War, may cause the death of many civilians.

HE FIRES PHOSPHORUS BULLETS

The Kremlin also decided to send the ‘BMPT-72 Terminator 2’, known as “the world’s most dangerous light armored military vehicle” and which it has avoided using until now, to the front in Ukraine. The vehicle, defined as the “most lethal” in the class of conventional light armored combat vehicles, was specially designed for urban warfare. According to the information obtained by the US-based international defense publication Army Recognition, serious changes were made to the combat vehicle that joined the Russian army in the late 2010s. The vehicle already has special artillery shells with incendiary or lethal biological gas capsules. It is stated that the vehicle used high-caliber bullets such as phosphorus and poisonous bullets, which are considered war crimes under international law.

WILL KILL CIVILIANS

It is also known that the vehicle, which will be used for the first time in Ukraine, has advanced fire control systems and strong compact armor protection. The armor of the vehicle is known as ‘Kotakt-5’ explosive reactive armor (ERA), which is among the strongest protection surfaces against explosives in the world. It is feared that the combat vehicle, which has been “redesigned to create a devastating effect for modern urban warfare”, will cause great harm to Ukrainian civilians on the front.

FAST FORWARD PLAN

Another factor that led Russia to include BMPT-72s in Ukrainian urban warfare is that Russian tanks have become easy targets against anti-tank missiles and RPG systems carried by infantry in Ukrainian cities. According to the information obtained The Russian General Staff said that almost all of its ammunition and fire systems were destroyed by the death-dealing BMPT-72s. He calculates that Russian soldiers and tanks will be able to advance faster in cities thanks to his arrival in the field. The only point that worries the Russian command is that there is no strategy on how exactly to use the large number of BMPT-72s in the armored formation. For now, the primary strategy is to use two BMPT-72s to protect each tank.

IT IS CONSIDERED A WAR CRIME

On the other hand, it is also known that ‘BMPT-72 Terminator 2’ can focus and attack many armored ground vehicles, air combat vehicles and infantry targets simultaneously. BMPT-72 also has a short gun assembly with 30 mm ‘2A42’ armor-piercing and explosive shells. Since the vehicle also has ‘9M120 Ataka’ anti-tank guided missiles, it can neutralize heavy armored vehicles or shelters from a long distance. The combat vehicle produced by the Uralvagonzavod company has the ‘AG-17D’ firing mechanism that launches hand grenades and the 7.62 mm PKTM automatic firing system, known for its effectiveness against infantry.
