While there are about 2 weeks left for the hazelnut harvest season in coastal areas of Ordu, producers who put fresh hazelnuts they pick from the branches on their stalls generally sell to expats and tourists.
Producers, who say they sometimes sell 40 kilos a day, said sales are lower than in previous years and that they wait all day for sales. Producers, who sell fresh hazelnuts for 100 lira per kilogram, have high price expectations for this year’s season.
“We try to sell it fresh”
Coşkun Çarkçı, who sells hazelnuts on the roadside, said, “Since it is the beginning of the season, demand is low, but demand will increase in the future. The prices are currently 100 TL, we are trying to sell them at a reasonable price because the purchasing power is low. Usually, people coming from out of town, expats and truck drivers buy hazelnuts.
Our hazelnuts ripen early, if we do not sell them this way, they will fall and go to waste after 10 days. For this reason, we are trying to sell them fresh daily. Hopefully, the base price will be good this year and the producer will be happy,” he said.
