In the new design of Google Maps, important information like search results and directions are presented in floating windows that let you see more of the map without losing your place.

What are the changes?

Floating Windows: Information like search results, directions, and venue details are now displayed in small rounded-corner windows instead of taking up the entire screen, making it easier to see more of the map and track your location.

Rearranged Transportation Options: The transportation mode option (such as car, public transport or walking) has now been moved to the bottom of the screen. The reasoning behind this change is unclear, but it is thought to be made to make it easier to use.

Minimalist Search Interface: The search interface has also been updated to feature a minimalist design.

When Is The Update Released?

The update is rolling out to Android with Google Maps version 11.136.x. Google announced that the update will reach all users gradually.

How Do I Get the Update?

If you still haven’t received the update, it should automatically be available in the coming days or weeks. To manually check for the update, you can head to the Google Play Store and search for the “Google Maps” app.
