Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his family were not at home when flares hit their property in the evening. Many politicians in the country are horrified.

According to Israeli police, unidentified people fired two flares near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home. They landed on the premises of the house in Caesarea, said the police and the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet. The Prime Minister and his family were not at home. No damage was caused. The “serious incident” is being investigated, it said.

Many politicians were horrified, including opposition leader Jair Lapid and President Izchak Herzog. The latter strongly condemned the “dangerous incident”. He warned of an increase in violence in public spaces.

The background to the incident was initially unclear, including whether there was a connection to the demonstrations for a hostage agreement that took place across the country again in the evening. According to media reports, there was no rally in Caesarea.

The Israeli head of government also has many critics in Israel. Many accuse him of not having taken personal responsibility for the political and military failure in the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. A corruption trial has also been ongoing against Netanyahu for a long time. Critics also accuse him of prolonging the wars in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon in order to remain in office.
